Mental Health Care at a Women’s Center in Kansas City
In 2013, a new Women’s Center in Kansas City called City Rescue Mission has begun reconstruction of their program to add mental health care for their residents. Not long after the center was opened, workers noticed that 100 percent of the women moving in had some sort of mental health issue. Studies had shown that most single, homeless women suffered from co-occurring disorders such mental illnesses and drug addictions showing that there was a desperate need for mental health counseling in their center. The new program involves a new ‘Life Plan” book, where the residents will work with professional counselors on their physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual selves. The women will have to determine and set their own long-term objectives.
Mental Health and Philosophy of Mind
Dr. Sophie Stammers, a philosopher who is currently doing fellow research work some something called Project PERFECT. It stands for Pragmatic and Epistemic Role of Factually Erroneous Cognitions and Thoughts. The goal of the project is to establish whether cognitions that are inaccurate in some important respect can ever be good from a pragmatic or an epistemic point of view. She partnered with a nonprofit organization that works to support people who struggle with mental illnesses and offer workshops that uses themes from FERFECT’s research. Materials for the workshop are designed to be useful to those who have had no previous clinical training in philosophy. The workshops that are held are discussion driven. They want to reconstruct models of mental health that are philosophically founded and that are better support and include insights from lived experiences.http://dailynous.com/2018/02/21/mental-health-phil...
