Social media is one of the most influential platforms today. Promotion of any type of, “lose weight fast” diet scheme can create a negative message about what one should eat and how much to consume. Unfortunately, once people have obtained the mentality that food is the enemy, it can lead to very unhealthy eating habits. Browsing on social media can cause social comparison. This is a phenomenon where individuals in society compare their lives against someone else’s. Primarily this focused is put on celebrity’s perfect image in the social media. This is damaging, because it can open the door for further mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. Weight-loss posts from celebrities can trigger dieting habits that are unhealthy and negative, which is why it is important for individuals to differentiate between these posts with false realities.
